Research Services
Seattle Genealogical Society volunteers provide research assistance and lookups in the following areas:
- SGS Library collections
We will check the indices of up to 3 volumes that you select from our online catalog. Please list authors and titles, and indicate the surname or place name you wish us to search for.
- Seattle area obituaries
Lookups in newspapers on microfilm for up to two names. If the exact date of death is unknown, we will search a 10 - 14 day period.
- Seattle City Directories
1890-91, 1898, 1900-1993 10-year limit, up to 3 specific names. Please specify time period.
Research fees are $10.00 per query for Society members and $20.00 per query for non-members. This fee helps the society maintain and ensure continued access to our outstanding research library. Ten photocopied pages appropriate to your research request are included at no additional charge. Additional pages are 15¢ per page.
Research requests may be made by sending a completed Research Request Form. Requests may be made online or by sending the completed request form along with a self-addressed stamped envelope and the appropriate research fees to: Seattle Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 15329, Seattle WA 98115-0329. Please make checks payable to the Seattle Genealogical Society.
Although we will consult available indexes, we regret that we are unable to obtain copies of birth, marriage, divorce, death, probate, land, court action or similar records outside of the SGS collection. You may obtain a list of professional researchers in the Seattle area, who can provide more extensive research services for a fee, at the Puget Sound Chapter-Association of Professional Genealogists.
